About My Caisse >> Introduction
Our History

May 31st 1944, the Caisse’s first location, for two or three months, is at the residence of Mr. Philorum Giroux. Later the Caisse populaire St-Joseph d’Orléans opens its doors to the public at the residence of Mr. Eugène Racette, who will be its manager for 23 years. After one year of operation, the Caisse has 70 members and total assets of $5,537.40.

In 1957, the Caisse rents the former residence of Mr. Larose located where the Orléans Medical Centre is today. Hours of operation are limited to three evenings per week and Mr. Racette is the only employee.

In 1966 Mr. Émile Pharand, Vice President, initiates the construction of a new building located just west of the current parking lot. Thanks to a loan from the Federation, the new caisse opens its doors on September 1st 1966.

The caisse enters the modern era in 1968. The caisse now has three employees, a teller, secretary and a teller-agent led by the manager, Mr, Réal Marcil. For the first time the caisse reaches 1 million dollars in assets.

Having seen steady growth and offering new services, the caisse has now outgrown its location. The board of directors approves the construction of a new building in 1974. In 1978, after 10 years as manager, Mr. Réal Marcil resigns and is replaced  by Mr. Gaston Ouellet.

The 80’s is a decade of unprecedented growth. In 1982 assets rise by 5 million dollars to reach 20.5 million. More work space is again required and construction of a new building is begun. February 1989 is when the caisse moves into the location that it stills occupies today.

After 15 years of service, Mr. Gaston Ouellet retires on September 25th 1998. Mrs. Linda Gaudet steps in as interim manager until the arrival of Mrs. Lucie Moncion on March 22nd 1999. She will remain in the position until January 2000, when Mrs. Gaudet will again step in to replace her as manager. Mr. Mario Lupien will be the next in the position until the hiring of the current General Manager, Mr. Denis Laframboise in June 2001.

The Innes road service centre opens its doors on November 5th 2001.

The collective contributions of these individuals has made the caisse what it is today: a dynamic and progressive institution, indeed one of the most important in Ontario.
